0231 - Birds
I recently started watching the series “Surviving Death” on Netflix. There’s only a few episodes, and it covers people who have had near death experiences (NDE’s), mediums, and signs from our loved ones. The last part really interested me, because of course I love to see how we are all connected and can receive messages from our loved ones in heaven. As I watched this episode, it became clear that one of the things that most people here on Earth is looking for is communication that their loved one is safe and sound. Even though we may have this knowing at a soul level, our rationing mind can easily forget.
In this episode about receiving signs, two daughters had asked their mom to send them a sign that she made it safely to heaven. The sign was a cardinal that was not native to their California landscape. After the funeral, the two daughters saw a cardinal, and it actually came up to them and allowed them to hold it. They showed video footage and the cardinal stayed with them, and didn’t want to fly away when they tried to release it. They had their sign. They had their knowing. No one could ever take that knowing away from them. Their mom was safe and sound.
My aunt told me a similar story after my Grandma passed away. On my aunt’s birthday, a bird she had never seen before showed up at her window and was there for a long time looking in. My aunt had her knowing too that my Grandma was safe and sound. How beautiful is this.
It had felt like awhile since I had received any signs from my Dad, even though I did receive a wonderful song on his birthday, about 2 weeks ago. The song “Gone, gone, gone” by Philip Phillips came into my mind when I woke up. The part about “I’ll love you long after you’re gone, gone, gone…”, and I knew it was Dad telling me that he was still there and loved me.

This loving Grandma sent a message from Heaven to her grieving family and now the video has gone viral. Angela Abbott Patteson recently shared a special moment on Facebook that has the whole world talking.
A few weeks ago, her husband’s grandmother passed away at the age of 97. Before her death, the family has talked numerous times about her sending a sign to them once she was in Heaven. They also specifically asked for the message to involve a cardinal.
Well, Grandma Dorothy Booth held up her promise just one day after the memorial service. Angela explains the moment on her Facebook page by saying, “They heard something at the kitchen window and my father-in-law Brian went out to check. A cardinal was there and he was able to bring it inside. For 10 min they held and pet it, then they decided to go outside to release it.”
The touching video showcases the moment that the family walks outside to release the bird. It’s truly a miraculous moment and you can feel God all around this grieving family.
John 14:1-3 “1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
I was adopted by my parents when I was just about to turn 2 in 1986. I was adopted with 7 other kids from different bad situations. I personally don’t have any recollection of abuse or neglect and that is probably for the best, but I have read documents entailing my situation and I’m so happy the system worked for me.
Mind you, when I say bad I don’t mean yelling and hitting and biting. I’m talking about stealing, pissing on the walls and floors of their bedrooms, and molesting each other. It was VERY bad. Eventually, we were down to 5 kids and we seemed to be much more “normal”. We were finally functioning as a family should. However, my mom was now fried. Her wits were gone. The three oldest problem kids had driven her absolutely crazy. She had turned very mean, short tempered, regretful, and spiteful. She was very hard to get along with due to this. I was no angel, but I was well within the boundaries of what one would call “a normal kid”.
I had graduated high school in 2002 and went straight into the army. By 2003 I was in Baghdad, Iraq. I had received an email from my Mom and that’s when she told me that she had advanced stage 4 colon cancer and she was terminally ill.
The drs told us that she had about 5 years to live even with surgery. She had surgery after surgery removing more and more of her colon, trying to buy time, but eventually the cancer spread and over took everything in her abdomen.
I watched over the next few years, my mom went from a healthy looking middle aged woman to a very old broken tiny little bag of skin and bones. Towards the end, she was so small I could have easily picked her up with one hand. It was so hard to see. Her illness had caused much self reflection and her attitude had changed dramatically. She was making an effort to show more compassion and I didn’t mind at all!
Now my mom had always been kinda crazy about hummingbirds. I never could understand it, but I never really cared otherwise. She just said that they are so pretty and graceful. So when my mom had passed away, my sister had bought a crystal hummingbird to place in her casket. I teased my sister about it, but secretly I thought the sentiment was touching.
Not even a few days later, I was at a gas station in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. I was going to pump gas and get a drink. But as soon as I got out of my car, a hummingbird flew up to my face and just hovered less than 10 inches from my nose. I could feel the wind whipping off of it’s ridiculously fast wings. I had never seen anything like this so close. I held out my hand and the hummingbird landed in my palm!!
I couldn’t believe it! Holy shit! I gotta take a picture so people will believe me. So I pulled out my phone and took a picture which I attached to this story. Confused on why this was happening, but not trying to make it end, I just stood there holding a hummingbird in the palm of my hand. I decided to take a chance, and opened my car door and got into my car. I never closed my hand on the bird, it willingly sat in the palm of my hand just staring at me. I started my car and drove home. I actually happened to have a hummingbird feeder in my front yard and I was so excited to show my family, because now they were really going to believe me!
About halfway home is when it hit me. Oh shit! Is this my mom?! Is she trying to tell me something? Is she just saying hi? How does this work? I got home, and showed everyone and they were amazed. The hummingbird sat in my hand for a few minutes before it finally took off. It flew across the yard, came back for a couple minutes and disappeared forever. I’ve never been spiritually driven, but I am convinced that hummingbird wasn’t just a random hummingbird that just felt like making a friend and going on a car ride. That bird either was my mom, or was sent by her. Either way, I’ll never forget it.
Edit: OMG YOU GUYS MADE ME THE MOST VIEWED WRITER IN SUPERNATURAL PHENOMENA!! This is one of the coolest things that’s ever happened to me! Well, besides my mom coming to visit me as a hummingbird.
Much Love!!
