0310 - Hessdalen
Sometimes sudden unidentified oscillating radio spikes in the High Frequency (HF) range were recorded at the same time as light events (Strand, 1985; Teodorani & Strand, 2001). One night, the observers aimed the laser beam (633 nm; power ¼ 0.4 4 0.76 mW, type: Ne-He) at two blinking lights that appeared one after the other over the course of one hour. Several attempts were made to get a reaction. The lights ‘‘responded’’ almost always by changing their flashing sequence from a regular flashing mode to a regular double-flashing mode and returning to a regular flashing mode after the laser beam was moved away
18 January 2001, 23:00 – Oppdal
A light phenomenon was captured on video. The observer filmed it for nearly 30 minutes, between 23:00 and 23:45. He was 8 km south of Oppdal, which is west of Hessdalen. A shapeless light in the sky was turning into a perfect isosceles triangle. The person who made the video wisely “calibrated” the anomalous event by aiming his video camera at a luminous star and then zooming it, in the same way in which the real light phenomenon was zoomed, in order to exclude any possible instrumental effects. The zoomed star (with magnitude slightly smaller than the real light event) was just a circle, while the phenomenon was a perfect illuminated triangle. So the phenomenon was real. The phenomenon’s position was south-east. We have seen only a sequence of 2 minutes, 20 seconds of this video.
Massimo Teodorani:
Before that mission I had received from Erling Strand a video cassette coming from Hessdalen [66]. The video was taken on January 18, 2001 by a couple of casual Norwegian persons who were located 8 km south of the town Oppdal, which is west of Hessdalen. For more than half an hour they filmed an event in the sky in which a shapeless light phenomenon was turning into a perfect isosceles triangle. The person who made the video was wise. He “calibrated” the anomalous event by aiming his videocamera at a luminous star and then zooming it, in the same way in which the real light phenomenon was zoomed, in order to exclude any possible instrumental effect due to various causes such as camera diaphragm regulation, focusing or else. The zoomed star (with magnitude slightly smaller than the real light event) was just a circle, while the phenomenon was a perfect illuminated triangle. So the phenomenon was real. I have some reasons to suspect that it is the same kind of phenomenon as the one which in summer 2001 appeared to us as a rectangle. Of course the CIPH fellows ignored that video of ours as well as they ignored the Oppdal video. They just “archived” them.
The Hessdalen Phenomenology is characterized by two well-distinguished aspects:
1: The very most luminous part of apparently intellectual orbs for which an external plasma appearance has been ascertained, but with highly anomalous characteristics bothering thermodynamically and morphologically,
2: a slender but significant minority of objects possess sharp characteristics of solidity. This double way in which the learnt phenomenology can be interpreted appears only in two alternative ways: or as an overlap of two phenomena with sharply different characteristics, or as two sharply different behaviors of the same phenomenon. Anyway it must be reminded that, by assuming that the second option is taken into account, well-known laws of radiation physics say very clearly That the instrumental verification of the plasma nature of a given phenomenon, is not sufficient two demonstrate that the phenomenon is entirely a plasma, but only that historical external surface (or: photosphere) behave like a plasma which, by its nature, is comfortable to hide all what exists inside it.
Does this footage represent what's inside a Hessdalen "plasma" ball?
It goes with the story that Project Hessdalen has an edited version of the recording available on its website. In the edited version, all of the most interesting parts are edited out (the parts where you can clearly see that it is a solid object, - not gas/plasma).
I have been in contact with the head of Project Hessdalen, Erling Strand, at the Østfold college regarding the recording, and asked for his opinion. He pointed out that we do not know in which height in the sky this was filmed, and that we therefore can not exclude the possibility that the luminous object at times may have been behind trees or the like. Strand does not exclude, in other words, that the portions of the recording where the light looks like an object, are due to that the light is partially hidden behind a tree.
For this reason, the footage can't prove anything, but in my opinion - and probably anyone who studies it, - it is reasonably unlikely that we are looking at a light (planet?) that periodically moves behind trees here.
Strand emphasizes that the recording is extremely interesting.
During the EMBLA 2000 mission we were approached over our vertical by a triangular-shaped object which was lighted only at his vertices and which was moving rectilinearly towards us from south [41: p. 11]. Five witnessess (all scientists) looked at it from two different positions of the valley. We couldn’t document it because it was moving and we didn’t have a videocamera with us at that time. I just aseptically briefly documented the event in our report of that time. Few days later two of us were approached (90 m from us) by a small elliptical object (about 40 cm in diameter) at the Aspåskjolen observing site [41: pp. 11-12]. I took a photograph of that little object while it was hovering close to the trees in front of us. Later I analyzed the photo and I ascertained that such a low-luminosity translucent object was sharply structured. Two contiguous events of such an importance made us suspect that we were approached by something sentient. But this was only an emotional impression, not a rational verification. Both events were certainly very impressive.
In the ambit of an international team of scientists (including important plasma physicists) we are studying these specific phenomena too, but we’ll never give official announcements until the scenario will be scientifically clarified. We have chosen not to show or discuss these data to the public. I can only tell that we are studing them in the ambit of a collaboration whose component names are secret so far.
Therefore we decided to remain silent on some “hardcore” evidences, and dedicate our detailed presentations and publications only to a part of the light phenomenon. We can also mention publicly that there exist some “extra-peculiarities”, but we are not willing to go into details for the general public. In this sense we have definitively closed the door and we’ll come out only, if and when it will be the case, and we’ll do it first within the official environment of physical science and of consciousness studies. It will be a hard task but we willingly accepted the challenge.

Taken from Haviks book (the UFO phenomenon, 1987):
"Early in the period after 1981, a few people at Øyungen heard sounds which resembled a train passing through a tunnel just below where they stood. Apparently, a "train" passed by from one end to the other, underground where they were. They got scared, and went home.
Later, it is mainly “thunder-like" sounds which have been heard. Today, no explanation is found for these sounds.
On 6. September 1984, two people heard deep roars at 09.18, 15.25 and 15.33. They came from the north-east.
On 7. September the same year, double “explosion-like" sounds were heard on the west side of mount Romundhaugen at 19.55. Later sounds were heard around Romundhaugen, as if the roar moved around the mountain.
If these sound phenomena in any way are related to the light phenomena, they will possibly have some connection with geological 'activity', and then both lights and sound phenomena should be a natural part of this. One has not been able to prove anything in favor of this theory yet."
AND WHEN YOU ARE DESCRIBING THE SURFACE, YOU SAW ONE THAT HAD A SMOOTH, SHINY SURFACE. THIS ONE WAS, DID YOU SAY, LIKE ALABASTER GLOWING FROM THE INSIDE OUT?
Yes. Yes. In that case, it was a sort of low luminosity, like a 100 watt bulb. Not more. So we don't know why in this valley there most are plasmas. In other cases, there are other things. So there is an overlap of the two phenomenon and we don't know if this overlap is by something different or by behavior of the same phenomenon. We don't know yet. Last year we also saw a triangle in the sky.
A TRIANGLE?
Yes, you can get information on this by reading my EMBLA 2000 report indicated in the bibliographic reference of the last EMBLA 2001 study. Last year we saw the triangle, but we couldn't document it because that day we didn't have a videocamera with us. It was impossible to follow it with a normal reflex camera. But it was just a triangle with three lights on the vertices. The lights were fixed, not blinking, and it was coming from north towards us and it did stop exactly over us. There were five of us and when it was over us it started to make a rotation around its axis while it was standing still. And after some seconds, about 15 seconds, the lights faded very gradually and the triangle disappeared over our heads. This is a story, but unfortunately we couldn't document or take measurements. But it happened.
HOW BIG WOULD YOU ESTIMATE AS A SCIENTIST LOOKING UP? COULD YOU ESTIMATE ANYTHING ABOUT THE SIZE?
It was practically impossible to understand. It was very big and I can only say that the size was about 10 times the moon. Probably more. I could see with my binocular that there was a dark surface very well fgyqserh . But differently from the Belgium cases. There was no blinking center light. There were only three lights fixed and then afterward fading gradually and disappearing. I tell you that my friend is director of a radio astronomical station. He is a radio astronomer and I am an astrophysicist. There were two professors there who are engineers and another professor. And it was in fact incredible!
SO YOU HAVE FIVE SCIENTISTS WHO ARE ALL WORKING IN UNIVERSITIES OUT TRYING TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THESE PLASMA SPHERES IN THE HESSDALEN VALLEY ARE AND THIS OBJECT OF TRIANGLE LIGHTS, YOU ALL SEE IT, AND IT STOPS RIGHT OVER YOU AS IF AWARE THAT YOU ARE THERE?
Yes, yes, yes, it is exactly so. Of course, I have to tell what happens. I am a scientist and my duty is not to select what I don't like or what is not convenient for me. We have to find out what it is. But we cannot document with data this. We were just witnesses because no one of us had a video camera. But we were 5 and we were all scientists. And one of them—I cannot tell you the name—felt a little bit like a sort of rocking motion.

One of the most extraordinary UFO-sightings in Hessdalen ever, was done by Leif Havik, - who is the author of the book I several times have referred to as well; “The UFO phenomenon”, (1987). Havik was also coordinator of the first two field investigations carried out by Project Hessdalen in 1984 and 1985. Considering Haviks position (leadership within Project Hessdalen / author of one out of two books about Hessdalen), it is, in my opinion, an extra reason to attribute this very special sighting weight:
“Friday 23.August, Leif Havik took a trip to Hessdalen. It was early afternoon when he turned into the road that leads to Øyungen, by Vårhus. Leif parked his car below Fjellbekkhøgda. Leif had packed a backpack for the trip, and went up along the mountain side. On the way up, he met a sport fisherman who was on his way down the mountain. After a brief pause at the top, Leif continued further towards Måstjønnskarven. He stopped at a huge rock on the plateau. Leif sat down on the moss, and used the huge stones as his backrest. He looked at the fantastic play of colors in the reflections from the countless small lakes across the tide. There were some little clouds that drifted by. It was strangely quiet, not a sound or a small puff where he sat.
While Leif sat there, he suddenly got a feeling of being watched., and he turned around to see if there was anything nearby. There was nothing to see, so he threw it away by thinking that it probably was just his imagination.
Just then, he saw a shiny silver object that slowly slipped out of an invisible portal in the sky. The distance was hard to calculate, but it was "close" enough so that he could see the details of the hull. It looked like a fuselage without wings, and it was clearly composed of plates. Although it shined in silver, there were parts that were like darkened glass, especially in the front. The entire hull gradually came into view, and it stopped.
Throughout this phase, Leif felt a tingling sensation in his arms and legs, and he was "heavy" in his head. It was an uncomfortable feeling, as if "something" deprived of his will. His brain told him to flee from there, but something "locked" him to the moss where he sat. Leif felt an intense, high-pitched, whistling noise inside his head, and it was an uncomfortable pressure in the forehead.
Leif explains further: "A weak. Reflective. flickering light moved along the side of the hull. There was something undefinable woolly about the light, - or rather like illuminated smoke. It suddenly felt as if his head would burst, and it was an indescribable pain. Then he did not really know what happened. The next thing he remembered was that he sat and looked beyond the rocky landscape, and he was surprised that it had been dark so fast. Now, there was no pain in his head, and the wingless fuselage was gone. He had to sort out his mind, and leaned firmly against a rock and rolled a cigarette. Then, it was as if a tape recorder started to run, and an authoritative and clear voice began to speak and rattled off one lesson after another. After a while, the "tape recorder" stopped. He suddenly felt that he wanted to go back home. The speed was high on the way back to the car. "
A small clip with an interview of some cottage residents visiting Hessdalen. Interesting story, which includes an observation of a saucer shaped craft. Somewhat unusual in Hessdalen, - most often it is elongated, cigar-shaped - or egg-shaped / spherical crafts which are sighted. The clip is also interesting because the reporter's sarcastic attitude is representative of the public attitude of UFOs and Hessdalen as it was a few years back. Fortunately, things are better now.
Taken from a NRK1 documentary from the 90's
From Haviks book (The UFO phenomenon):
Let's have a closer look at Category 4:
"Several lights with a fixed distance from each other. Most often, there were two yellow or white lights with a red light in front. Many people were talking about the object when they saw this light type. These lights could move slowly around the mountains. Again, it usually moved along the north-south axis."
"Friday 17th March 1982 I went up to Hessdalen along with a couple of friends. Our equipment, which was packed as for an expedition to the polar regions, was loaded carefully on a snowmobile sled.
At 19.32 we were interrupted by someone shouting, "There it is!" We dropped what we held in our hands, and ran out on the road. An elongated bright object was passing slowly in front of mount Finnsåhøgda on its way north, - so that the mountain could be seen as a backdrop.
We had barely arrived at the “Promised Valley”, and there "it" was!
The equipment was transported to the mountain farm, as we drove back to Aspåskjølen where other people stood and "stared". We soon learned that more people had seen "it", and that they had not heard any sound.
At 20.39 a similar object returned in the same route, but this time from north to south. I was able to register three points of light, of which one was red. The object turned to the south-west, above the mountain with moderate speed. The camera equipment was on the scooter sleigh, and probably almost halfway to the farm by now...
Drawing: Leif Havik
At 23 o'clock we arrived at the farm.
In the hours that followed, we unpacked the equipment and watched the night sky. We soon realized that there were many planes, and there were lots of satellites. There was otherwise no trouble hearing the sound of planes - and into the night, there was almost no passages. It was a peaceful and quiet night, in an equally peaceful "paradise" that Finnsådalen soon was named.
Next morning, we walked around the "foot" of Finnsåhøgda, and found an excellent observation post in about the hight of 690 meters. Here we would establish ourselves for the night.
At 19 o'clock we were ready to begin observing.
It goes with the story that these lights were so precise regarding the time – that people began to mention the passages as "routs" or "flights". The clock struck 19:30 and we were waiting for “the half past seven flight”.
More stars appeared, and it cleared up.
There! ... - A star-like light appeared in the south. It came over the horizon, but only emerged as jack in the box. The time was 19.33. The light became "warmer" and it was approaching fast. We could see that it was elongated and that it had at least two yellow-white lights and a red light. The red light was placed above the object. Could it be a plane? No. - We could hear no sound, - and it came ever closer. Cameras were ready, and we shot a few pictures. The lights were passing slowly to the north.
We noted that there was only a kind of “dead” light. It seemed blurred and dull, and none of us had seen such a light before.
Camera with 400 ASA film and 270 mm telephoto lens was used. Of course it was mounted on a tripod, and through the lens, I could only see a small point of light. It was just to shoot and hope for luck.
In October, she and her husband saw a large object with two bright lights in front and a red at the rear."
Same object?
The object's passage deserves further comment. Distance to the top of the mountain which the object passed in front of, is just under 2000 meters, and we could see that the object disappeared behind the nearest peak of Finnsåhøgda. Thus, it would imply that the object's passage had to be at a distance of approximately 17 to 1800 meters, and the height of the passage about 980 meters.
After the lights disappeared behind the mountain, we saw it again just seconds later - when it came in a nice turn from the west along the mountain edge, after which it again disappeared behind the mountains. It did, in other words, an extra loop before continuing to the north. But this time only the red light could be seen, and the other two yellow-white lights were turned off.
I have since seen the same phenomenon on several occasions, and I'm sure it could not be plane, balloon, planet or a light reflection.
After this incident we were silent, everyone trying to find an explanation. But we soon had to give up. However, we were sure that no airplane could do such maneuvers only a few meters above the mountain plateau.
At 19.58 we became aware of another floating “star”. It came at exactly the same "route" as the previous one, and it had the same speed. As it came closer, it assumed a more yellowish color, and later more orange-red. This was also photographed before it disappeared to the north. The light seemed like a flickering “flame”, and had diffuse contours.
The next day we also had two observations of nearly the same type. At 19.38 and 19.50 some bright objects passed to the north in almost the same "route” as before, but no photos were taken.
"Same" object once again:
From Vårhuskjølen I saw a similar lighted object like the previous observations.
We were four people standing on Vårhuskjølen when "it" came north at 19.42. It passed above the mountain and went down the north side of this mountain. After a while it suddenly disappeared in direction of the Haltdalen area. Others who saw it said that it passed in the same hight as Vårhus, - 610 meters.
At 20.50 "it" came back from the north, but this time it passed east of Finnsåhøgda. It rose immediately after the passage of the mountain, and disappeared into the clouds at about 14 to 1500 meters altitude. The object was illuminated, with a red light in front. There was no sound. Attempts to photograph failed.
The 21. October we were back.. At 21.13 came "our" oblong object. It passed north of the mountain, before it suddenly disappeared. Four minutes later a similar object passed to the south, east of Finnsåhøgda. It followed Hessdalen south in regular orbit and speed. The observations took place in clear weather, and there was no wind. No sound could be heared. Attempts to take photographs failed this time as well.
A hissing sound:
The 26. October, I went up to Hessdalen again with a friend. We arrived Vårhuskjølen at 19.35. There were two representatives of UFO Sweden there which had stood there all day without seeing anything special.
We had barely enough time to stop the car, before a light appeared. We popped out of the car, as if shot from a catapult seat - and there was our "cigar" again! This time it was properly illuminated, and it moved slowly to the north. It had a clear red light in front, and it was moving in a slow, wave-like motion. It also had a very rough path. This time it passed so far to the east, that it passed almost directly above where we stood, and although it was impossible to determine the height, it could possibly not be more than 1000 meters, or in other words up to 300 meters above us.
Since it passed so close, it was for the first time possible to hear sound. It was a kind of hissing sound, which can be compared with the sound of high voltage cables in wet weather.
I have been struggling to find a description of the visual observation, and the closest I can come to - is that it resembled a huge glowing ash flake that flew with the wind.
The content is taken from Arne Wisths book from 1983; “The UFO mystery in Hessdalen” - entirely from chapter nine of the book, which covers UFO sightings in the Hessdalen area in 1982 - mostly daylight sightings.
1981 - 1984 was the most intense period in Hessdalen where it was made several observations per day - up to thirty a week. From 1985 to the present day it is made (or notified) a thirty observations on an annual basis.
Some readers probably wrinkles on the nose of sightings made back in the eighties, and believes this is old news. I believe, however, it is important to know about these early sightings and have them as a backdrop when you read about, and consider recent observations of the type “lights in the sky”. Internationally Hessdalen is known under the name "Hessdalen lights." I want to differentiate and create a more complete picture of what has been observed, and still is being observed in Hessdalen.

Lars Lillevold and his family live in Hessdalen. - 18 January 1982 changed my life completely, he says. - What I saw amazed me so that I have to admit that others may laugh at me and see me as a lunetic. But I know what I saw.
Illustration; Rune Øverby. "The light was blinding. It looked as if "it" had a red, hairy like smoke that it surrounded itself with."
"In October, she and her husband saw a large object with two bright lights in front and a red at the rear."
This evening Lars had an errand outside his house. The time was approx. 19.30. - Over the outhouse I saw something big, bright red. It must have been at least 30-40 meters long. As a loaf of bread it stood there, completely still. I expected to hear sounds. I listened, but heard only the murmur of the forest. Then "it" moved. The light was blinding. It looked as if "it" had a red, hairy like smoke that it surrounded itself with. It moved in a northerly direction up the valley. He shouted at his wife who saw the lights before "it" disappeared. - Since it was a craze for me, I had to see this again. And I have done many times later. Time and again I asked myself what this might be. I'm surprised that the authorities do not take this more seriously. I'm glad that others see, and want as many people as possible to do.
A man who has seen UFOs both day and night, is Jon Aspås. In late February, he called his neighbor, Martin Aspås, who lives a short distance further up the valley. The time was quarter past nine in the morning. Martin sat and ate breakfast and looked out the kitchen window when he saw an object in the air just to the south, in the direction of the houses to Jon Aspås.
Do you see anything over mount Rogne? Is it the same object that we have seen in the evening?
Jon ran outside the house. There it was, shiny and metallic. It was oblong and somewhat flattened below. It looked like it had a raised platform at the top, says Jon. It went south at an altitude that could not be more than a few hundred meters.
The following morning he saw the UFO again. Then it was also observed by others near Røros. At this second daylight observation, they could study the object for 42 minutes, as long as it stood quietly in the valley between Ålen and Hessdalen. Then it went straight east before it sat up a tremendous speed and disappeared out of sight.
Jon saw the UFO once again in March. It was passing the valley in daylight, but very fast. Once it went four times between the valley and mount Finnsåhøgda, back and forth.
Berit Mary Kjerrengvold lives in Hessdalen. Tuesday before Easter she was on her way from Ålen towards Røros in her car. With her she had an acquaintance, Anita Trygstad from Røros. Approx. at. 13.00 they were a mile south of Ålen, on a slight incline. On the right side, they discovered something dark that was not moving over the treetops. The object appeared elongated and were sort of standing at an angle. It was metallic silver and quite large. The sun was up, and should reflect the object's metallic color. It did not, it looked more as if the metal had its own "glow". They did not stop the car and saw the object for approx. 20 to 25 seconds. In October, she and her husband saw a large object with two bright lights in front and a red at the rear.
Reconstruction; "The object was like a fuselage without wings: Silver - metallic bright in color."
Illustration; Rune Øverby. "It must have been twice as big as a truck with a trailer. His son Peter thought it was even bigger. Any plane, it could certainly not be, said Bendheim."
"Oblong, silvery..."
Ingulf Rotan from Ålen have a cabin by Øyungen. 16.03. 1982 approx. at. 19.30 he saw a bright, shiny object coming through a hole in the clouds. It looked like it came straight from above, but below the clouds it flattened out after having made a "spiral movement". It continued to maneuver with strange turns until it disappeared behind Skarvan.
32 year old Aud Rønning was 23.03. 1982 approx. at. 22.40 on her way home to Haltdalen after a trip to Oppdal. Next to the bridge by Gilset she saw something she thought was the moon. Then she discovered that "the moon" was elliptical, with a slightly reddish, glow above. It came from her right over the roadway in front of her. She turned around. The color was sharp, orange-yellow. Right towards the car the object came, and Mrs. Rønning was startled for a moment:
Would it drive her down?
She estimated the Ufos altitude to be only three or four feet above the ground. She believed that it may not have been farther than 10-15 feet away when it suddenly went straight into the air and disappeared. At the same time, the car engine died out. It lasted just a few seconds, she says, but the experience is impressed in her mind.
Per Moen saw "something" in March 1982, at Øyungen. - It was in the evening, and I saw something I thought was a star among the trees. It was quiet and it sort of pulsated. Then came a powerful flash that lit up the whole area, and then it was gone. The object just disappeared in front of me.
- Another evening, I was at a similar place to see three of them at once. They came sliding inwards, two above and one below. Suddenly we saw a fourth object. Personally, I believe that it came right up from the ground. They formed a long N-formation. For several minutes I could study them. Suddenly there was the same as in the first case: they just disappeared right before my eyes.
During the autumn of 1982, I have seen similar things several times. One day I drove with my in-laws north in Hessdalen. They had never seen something, and wanted to have a look after all the talk about UFOs. Then came a bright "thing" towards us and turned up the river valley. The observation lasted for 2-3 minutes. Later, at 23 o'clock, we again saw it from the "plateau". It came through the clouds, down sharply at high speed and disappeared behind Finnsåhøgda.
Even in the bright nights of the summer 1982, there were reports of UFO sightings. A family from Bærum who were on holiday, have been unwilling to come forward and tell what they saw in June, when they were on vacation in Øyungen. But they have revealed to a person that they saw an enormous flying "thing" that "let out" three small "things" that flew with tremendous speed. The family ended their vacation and went home.
8. March 1982 Torbjorn Drag Myrhaug was driving a car into Hessdalen with his wife Mary and daughter Hallgerd.
The time was 22.50, and suddenly the family in the car saw an orange colored light to the left of them. They went out of the car and stood and stared in disbelief at what played out before them. - The moon reflected in the object, and we could through the light clearly see that it had a metllic color. The size was about like a car, and it was pointed in front and somewhat blunt at the rear. As a ghost plane the object passed without a sound. In the autumn the whole family was to study a similar phenomenon from their living room window, and later they have seen it several times. In August, the daughter Hallgerd with his grandmother, Ella Hegseth and her friend, Eli Benoa were in a cabin near Øyungen. Then they saw something that flashed in red, just west of them. This "red" thing was slowly moving, and they could observe it for several minutes.
The most remarkable happened in daylight around 16.30 on 23 October. Tom and Hallgerd was driving from Hessdalen towards Ålen. The road is very curvy there, and Torbjorn had to concentrate on driving.
- It was big as an airplane and silver metallic. No windows I could see where "it" glided over us, maybe a hundred meters away. It was rather pointed in front, and right behind I think it sort of was a bump. How long I saw it, I'm not sure. Maybe a minute. When we finally stopped, it was gone over the mountain.
Jon Arvid Aspås always spend the summer on a farm at Hessjøen with his family. It is located on a hill with good view of the valley. The family consists of his wife Solfrid, Ole Martin 14 years, Ann Kristin 13, Joar 11 and Sture 10.
Jon Arvid have seen UFOs many times, but only as a light, except for one occasion when he also claimed to have seen metal and windows.
The sun was still up at 19.25 o'clock 3 september 1982. The sky was clear, and Jon Arvid and the kids were outside. Then Solfrid saw something in the sky that came from the south, and she shouted at the others. - The object was like a fuselage without wings: Silver - metallic bright in color. (This is confirmed by the rest of the family). It was probably about. 2 km. Away. - It turned eastward, and came a bit east of us. It was so close that we could observe it from underneath. We saw absolutely no wings. It reminded us of the old airships that we've seen pictures of. No sound was to hear.
Jon Arvid ran to fetch his binoculars. As he came back, the “thing”disappeared into a cloud. - It was not big, says Solfrid. We wondered that we could not see it coming out of there. But it was gone.
23. October 1982, ie the same day as Hallgerd Drag Myrhaug saw "something" from her father's car in broad daylight, was Edvin Kværnes outside his house in Ålen. It was 16.40 when he over Ålen saw something he thought was an airplane. It went very slowly on the north course. He studied it carefully. It seemed much larger than a regular plane, he thought. It was difficult to judge the height of the craft, but Kværnes son is a pilot, and he thought it had the same height as his son used to hold over the area. Maybe around 5000 feet.
Kværnes tried to hear engine sounds from the plane. He listened. Nothing was to hear. And it went all too slowly. The plane turned east. But it had no wings! Startled Kværnes studied the flying object closer. It glistened in a silvery hull, but how closely he looked, he could not see the wings. As an old-fashioned airship it slid off. In three - four minutes he observed the object before it disappeared.
Kværnes was one of those who in January had seen the UFOs in Hessdalen, the first time north of the house of Martin Aspås. At that time, they saw it came gliding silently with two reddish light behind and "some strange light" in front. They saw the lights in front of the mountain, so it could not be an airplane. Almost every day after this was Kværnes up on the "plateau" and from there he made many observations of unexplained lights.
One autumn day he was at Øyungen along with seven other people. Then came the UFO he had seen the first time back - the one with two lights behind. And this time they saw clearly that it had a light in front. - One of the lights, I think was blue, says Kværnes. - You could sort of make out a dark mass in the middle. The UFO moved slowly and disappeared in the north. This happened at 19.30 o'clock at night, and the weather was fine and clear. Later, Kværnes saw a UFO once from his car in November.
Ole O. Baka is from Ålen. Sunday 24 October, he and his son Oddleif were on a trip in Båttjønndalen along with a colleague, Per Sten Lien. It was sunny and calm weather. The time could be around 15.45. Suddenly, they noticed something they thought was a plane on a northerly course. They saw it glide slowly toward mount Fjellbekkhøgda, and it shone in the metal as the aircraft turned and went south in Hessdalen. They saw that it had no wings, and that it was moving very slowly. The object was shining - and large. The did not hear any sound.
They agreed that it could not be a plane. It was more like a helicopter, for it had sort of a thickening in the middle. But a helicopter is not silent.
Ole Bendheim and his son Peter was on his way through the valley to Ålen by car on 24.10. 1982. The time was 15.40. They drove around a curve, so Bendheim had a good grip on the steering wheel. Suddenly he gripped even harder. What on earth was this? For a moment he thought that what he saw was a reflection in the window. But no, he saw it through the windshield and side window. It was a huge object in the sky and it looked like an aluminum pan in color. It took some time before Peter saw the same as his father.
The object was sliding down the mountain and disappeared for a moment at the forest edge. There it was sort of hanging over a plantation. It looked as if its length covered the entire planting area. Bendheim had slowed down, and the car went forward at snail's pace. Was there no one else nearby who saw this? A few hours before, there was a swarm of people in the mountains and valley. Most were hunters, as it was hunting season. Now he saw none.
- It reminded me of a movie, this that played out over the treetops in front of us. It seemed so supernatural. Could it be a mirage? As we could see, was "the thing" only three or four hundred yards beyond us. It should have been twice as big as a truck with a trailer. His son Peter thought it was even bigger. Any plane, it could certainly not be, said Bendheim. The object glided slowly along. Oblong, silvery, and the front ... there was something that moved, there?
In front of the object, it looked like it was a "dent" in the hull. Was it an opening there? Did they see cross through the object at this point? Was it the woods in the background they saw? Or was there something inside the vehicle that moved?
Bendheim've thought and thought about this. - The sight was so fantastic, so we forgot to study the details, he said. - At least there were no visible marks on the hull, it was completely blank. It was just this weird front. No light. No sound to hear.
Bendheim also believe that it was something that resembled rods moving in front of the vehicle. They were suddenly gone. - If we had a camera with us, we would have plenty of time to shoot. We saw this in seven to eight minutes. Afterwards, I thought that the word camera was not in our thoughts. Maybe we would not have taken a picture even if we had been able to. The visual impression overwhelmed us. We forgot everything.
The object disappeared behind a hill, and we saw it again. - Had not Peter been with me, I would not have mentioned this to anyone, said Bendheim. - What should one really believe? I have no idea what it might have been. Mirage or ... well, I do not know what. The military has been here and asked me out. I could only say that this was what we saw.

This collection of daylight sightings reports represent only a small excerpt of what was observed in Hessdalen during the great flap in the 80s. The total number of observations are enough to fill books - and of a nature (close range, with the terrain in the background, etc.) that natural explanations, - like planes etc. can be excluded.
Still it is done daylight sightings of solid, metallic objects in Hessdalen and the surrounding area. As previously mentioned in this blog, the researchers estimate the percentage of solid objects to be somewhere between 5% (Teodorani) and 15% (Strand). The remaining percentage of observations are “lights in the sky”.
We do not know if “lights” and solid objects are two very different phenomena, or whether in fact the same phenomenon is observed under different physical stages. One can for example speculate that these objects are surrounded by ionized gas (plasma) as part of the propulsion (?) and that what appears to be lights in the sky, in reality are solid, metallic objects surrounded by ionized air (plasma)?
In some cases, it seems to be a gradual transition from solid objects, to "plasma lights". (“...it was surrounded with red smoke”, “...the metal had its own "glow"”, “... a slightly reddish, glow above”, “... you could sort of make out a dark mass in the middle” etc.
Other cases indicate that these are two different things:
If the "plasma lights" is a kind of unknown natural phenomenon (related to the geophysical conditions in Hessdalen?) it is tempting to speculate whether Hessdalen is selected as the venue for the testing of exotic technology (“anti-gravity” aircrafts, etc.) precisely because of the presence of unknown natural phenomena which can serve as an alibi, cover and camouflage.
Or is the "plasma lights" artificial manufactured technology being tested - eg. electromagnetic weapons? In that case, one can speculate that the solid objects with silvery, metallic hulls, etc., are supervising the technology and manages / controls it?
Date: 12/23/2002 Time: 5:07 P.M. Place: Vårhus in Hessdalen
Observer: Bjarne and Bjorn Lillevold.
Today's post might help to show some of the wide range in what has been observed, and still is being observed, in Hessdalen. This observation was made 23 December, 2002.
From Project Hessdalens web page:
Bjørn and Bjarne were working with a car out on the yard at home. They suddenly became aware of a big black vertical "stick", just above the automatic station. The lower part of the "stick" did make a blue-green flash now and then. It could go minutes between each flash. It moved slowly towards south, in direction Rognsåsjøen. It disappeared behind the mountain 15 minutes later.
Ref. Bjarne Lillevold.
"The blue box" is the "brain" of Project Hessdalen, and the automatic measurement station. Here are the computers that perform various measurements placed, and all the cameras and antennas are mounted here. Apparently, the UFO phenomenon, whether it is man-made or alien, makes its own research and observations “in return”.
Q: In a recent interview, you have stated that “…you have had several daytime observations, where you have seen flying discs, etc…”Even if not related to the HP, could you please provide more details on such sightings?
Erling Strand: “I have had only three daytime observations, so the word “several” is wrong. I have however seen several unexplainable “things”, – such which goes into another category than HP or ufo. Two of those three observations was a flying disc. The third was a “black hole”. I did not get the impression that I was looking onto a black object, it was more like a hole into something completely black. This “black hole” changed size all the time.

However, in my opinion, the technique that you used although being correct, doesn't demonstrate yet that the 2007 lights are flares."
The Science Camp 2012 has been organized by Bjørn Gitle Hauge and Erling Strand in cooperation with the Inspira Science Center. Beside two groups of pupils with special interest in natural science, three TV crews and amateur researcher from five countries came to Hessdalen. During the five day research period, numerous photographs, measurements and observation could be obtained. Below the images of Bernd Pröschold and Jader Monari are displayed. Thanks a lot to the Italien scientists, who provided some images for Hessdalen Germany.
Already in the first night of the Science Camp a photograph was obtained, which might be subject to intensive future discussion. Three times a light is moving over the landscape west of the Øyungen lake. What appears to be an airplane light at first glance, turns out to be able to stop in the air and to change the flight direction in few seconds by 180°. The photographer has discovered several thousands of airplane lights in his timelapse shots but none of them is continously shining in red colour. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is demanding not only a red light, but also a green and an white light - this provision is also valid for helicopters. The strange flight path of the light becomes visible on composite images:21:42 - 21:52 22:01 - 22:11 22:28 - 22:37
Bizzare manouver of a pretended airplane light. The pictures have been taken with a Canon EOS 5DIII with 24mm lens and a spectral filter foil (Exp. time 15sec, intervall 1sec, 5000 Asa, f2, before 21:49: f7). The shooting location is Skarvan hill. Strong western winds prevented a contious visual observation of the lake during the night
Timelapse shot of the "maneuver" of the light covering 55 minutes. The spectrum visible in the shots is originating from a cabin at the eastern shore of the lake. The light in question is too weak to produce a spectrum. The pointlike structure of the stars is due to the 1sec gap between the exposures. The pointlike structure of the light appears within a single 15 sec exposure and must have been caused by a pulsation of the light
In the same night at 2:00 another light appears in front of the uninhabited islands in the middle of the lake. 16 minutes later it reappears at nearly the same position. What can be seen in the images are probably two very short pointlike flahes - a characteristic type of the Hessdalen Phenomenon.
During the night from September 19th to 20th the Northern Lights have been very active. The Italian group of scientists around Jader Monari went to Vista Point at the northern end of the valley to take pictures of this event. But the images are not just showing the Northern Lights but also a strange light phenomenon. Special thanks to Jader Monari for providing his images.
The pictures have been taken with a Canon EOS 5DIII with 24mm lens and spectral foil (Exp. time15sec, interval 1sec, 5000 Asa, f2). The light at the western shore of the lake is a cabin light
Although the light behaved quite strange, it has not been spotted visually
In the last night of the Science Camp Bernd Pröschold has chosen the western shore of lake Øyungen as shooting location for his timelapse shots. At 02:05 CEST an unusual light phenomenon appears. Similar phenomena, consisting of several light balls, have been repeatedly showing up in timelapse shots taken in Hessdalen. The shot in question has been taken in the night from September 21th to 22nd with the newest generation of DSLR cameras. It can be ruled out with some reliability that we are looking at a noise artifact of the camera.
In the night from Friday to Saturday after the official end of the Science Camp, the Italian research group around Jader Monari found another interesting structure in their images. The picture was taken at the basecamp near the eastern shore of Øyungen lake. The changing colours and large number of light balls are rather typical for the Hessdalen Phenomenon than for meteors. Special thanks to Jader Monari for providing his images.
You are looking on an enlarged cutout of the original image. The picture has been taken with a Canon EOS 5DIII, a 14-24mm f2.8 lens and 11 seconds exposure time at 6400 Asa. In the neighboured frames the phenomenon is not visible. This is typical for comparable shots of the Hessdalen Light and suggests that the time of appearance of this kind of light is quite short
The picture has been taken with a Canon 20DA and Samyang 8mm lens with 15 seconds exposure time at 1600 Asa. The light phenomenon has not been observed visually. As it is the case with meteors, also the light flashes of the Hessdalen Phenomenon are very short events and it is difficult to observe such kind of light visually
